Use advance search when simple listing is insufficient. Advance search tab is shown below. Press Ctrl + F to access it.

Strict comes into play when you have two or more parameters as shown in the picture above (Parameters Date and Potential).
Enabling Strict produces fewer results.

Date fields (as indicated under the 'Type' column) should contain date strings in the specified format (dd-MMM-yyyy, dd/MM/yyyy etc. ).

With Strict Checked (Enabled), the search in the picture reads as:
Find all the leads booked between 11-Mar-2006 and 11-Sep-2006 AND (STRICT SEARCH) lead potential between 10,000 and 15,000.
With Strict Unchecked (Disabled), the search in the picture reads as:
Find all the leads booked between 11-Mar-2006 and 11-Sep-2006 OR (LENIENT SEARCH) lead potential between 10,000 and 15, 000.
